The average person receives dozens of emails per day but open a fraction of that and engage with even fewer.
So how do you ensure your emails are opened, clicked, and converting? Well, the obvious answer is email design and segmentation, but they can be time-consuming and require technical skills.
The email content, on the other hand, is something you’re always going to have to write. To you better communicate with leads, here are 4 easy content hacks to boost email marketing conversion:
1. Be yourself
Leaving yourself out of an email is not being human — it’s being robotic — and recipients spot it right away.
Believe it or not, people want to know you even if you’re not the CEO or owner of your company. So since you’re a unique person, your emails will resonate if you’re open up to recipients.
2. Be funny
It doesn’t matter if your jokes are, it’s the effort that counts. Your audience will appreciate it the informality among the dozens of work emails.
There is, however, one caveat: the same joke doesn’t work for everyone. For example, if you’re emailing for B2B, keep it subtle, but witty. If you’re running a one-man shop and emailing a buyer, feel free to be a little raunchier.
3. Be creative
Whether you’re a one-man show or part of a company, you have a story to tell. Most marketers know to weave their narrative into their marketing strategy in terms of content, but few do it well in terms of form.
Approach the story like an author approaches writing a novel — who’s the main character, what do they value, and how the audience will interpret the message in the story.
Use different (but still recognizable) words. Vary your sentence structure. You can even include a flowery prose. It might feel weird at first, but it will quickly distinguish you from your competitors.
4. Be provocative
There’s an important distinction between provocative and offensive. You want to challenge your audience and make them think — but you don’t want to offend or insult them.
This is closely tied to #2 Be funny – it’s you can be funny while you’re challenging the assumptions of your audience, double points!
